Ending this crazy year with a blog post I wrote "Of Thermophilization Rates & Forest Microclimates" 🌡📈🌳🌱 to share my thoughts on a recent debate about the relevance of #forest #microclimate for forest biodiversity responses to climate change #CC https://bit.ly/3rIOxXL

Very nice article written by Jerôme Ogée featuring forest microclimate & thermophilization of understorey plant communities ➡️ Forest microclimate matters for species adaptation to macroclimate change & can be modulated through management https://twitter.com/regefor/status/1337407289184096257

I’m excited for my first synthesis to be published after 4 years of work! My coauthors and I found that shallow soil temperatures were higher under tall shrubs and trees around the permafrost region after controlling for air temperature. https://doi.org/10.1088/1748-9326/abc994.

Edges of #forests 🌳contain more #carbon than interiors, due to edge effects. Across #Europe, this extra carbon stock represents not less than 183 Tg carbon, or the equivalent C-drawdown potential of ~1 million hectare extra forests (1/3 of 🇧🇪)! Now out:

Measuring soil pH from samples we collected on our #IMPRINT study sites this summer, in the forests of Blois, Aigoual and Mormal ➡️ pH range from 4,0 to 7,1!
We had help from two MEEF interns, Quentin & Édouard 👨🏻‍🔬 ⚗️ @f_spicher @BorisBrasseur @eva_gril @UMR_EDYSAN
